Birthday Blog

A lot has changed in the last one year. I had a long trip south which was a great learning experience. My glasses took some more power out from my eye and have grown still thicker. I finally got my passport for which the application was made two days before I turned 21, last year.
Complex calculation? Yeah that is because many people are going to read the title of the blog, read “21“ and move on… And they say that, the first impression is the best impression. I’m not exactly ashamed of the fact that I have turned a year older than 21. It’s just that I like the number ‘21’. May be because it is a multiple of 7, which is my lucky number, more so because my mothers’ birthday falls on the 7th!

Anyway, planning your schedule for your birthday is not the easiest thing on the planet. In fact it can get really challenging if you have a super size friends circle. In such a case prioritizing the people you want to meet on your birthday can be a tedious task. And as, many of my friends conceded me an MBA even before I have the degree in my hand, I decided to use my personal management skills to select just the right people with whom I would spend the rest of my day. I call it, “The Lucky List”. Since there was a long queue at the saloon where I generally get my haircut, I promptly decided to meet Kishor, a barber at the nearby village called ‘Uttam Nagar’ and decided to spend the next hour with him.

So choosing the first person on the “Lucky List” was not as tough as I had thought. Anyhow, after spending an hour at the small shack filled with a 10,000 flys around me, making me look like a bee-man, I decided to meet my three best’est friends next. And yes, I did take a bath after the haircut! Now something I already knew about these three best friends was that they had been discussing about my birthday from the last 10 -12 days. I knew there was something being planned. And obviously I knew nothing after “something” about it. I had thought about it a lot many times. Knowing them, I was expecting something more like a never ending list of mock gifts which they would give out in front of all my other friends and some camera men, and then send the recording as their entries to the World’s Funniest Videos. Or may be give me a blindfold make up which would make me look like some hot pick up girl! Or even worse, get me a gay date! And this is true, and possible with these three people around. Because they are the most talented bunch of people, all from different walks of life and with the world most notorious brains installed between 29 bones, called the skull.

But I was wrong. What this day had in store for me was the best gift anyone can ever want! A treat oozing love. A room decorated with candles and hearts. Some smiley fries on beautifully embossed glass plates, bread sticks with cheese and home made Virgin Mary, followed by a mouth watering pasta dish, the tastiest I have ever had, along with delicious stir fried vegetables and a salad with all sort of fancy veggies. All home made! And of course the leftovers of the birthday cake along with coffee ice cream. And a gift!

I then knew that this was the best birthday anyone could probably ever wish for. And that I was plain lucky to have them as my friends! I had never felt anymore speechless in my life. As we ate, I heard them talk about all the efforts that went in to surprise me. How things were being arranges right in front of me, without me being able to guess it even in the wildest of my dreams. It was then I felt conspired against. Because I so wanted to be a part of all their preparation and enjoy the bliss of giving happiness, than taking the happiness.

Also now, I have an even bigger ego. For reasons that I cannot put in words! So, please do not dare mess with me now. Moving on with the day, I met more and more of my close friends, more cakes to cut and finally I now have a Super Size Ego, and this day is the happiest in my history of 21+1 years.

But in all this I had forgotten to keep adequate time to have dinner with my folks, as planned. I guess I need to go through the MBA course. I am not as good a personal manager. The lucky list was not all that a great list of prioritized people I wanted to meet. I sure did not have a Super Size Ego anymore. And there have been better days in my history of 22 years.

I guess at times even bad weather to your side does not work even if offered with apologies. And that is why ‘7’ is my lucky number and not ‘30’.

Horn’ey

Ever wondered how much can a horn speak of your mood? If not, watch out the next time you on the road.

Traditionally we have a peenp or peenp – peenp which is like saying… dude, watch out. Not exactly a mood honk… more like I’m blankly heading to work… and you are blocking my way.

Then we have a little agitated honk… peeeeenp… more like, dude… what ya up to? Get outta my way! Quite common if the guy is running late for work, didn’t get breakfast or may be is caught up behind a female driver!

We also have a very angry honk… peeeeeeeeeeeeeeenp – peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeenp more like... ass, m*&%^&%, B^$&($%#@$ … Dikhta nahi kya? This is generally when you are broken out of you blank thought process… more because of Newton’s first law of motion… inertia.

But the best is Ganpati honk…
peeenp peenp penp penp peeenp, peeenp peenp penp penp peeenp.
More like the dhinkche dicnkche during Ganpati. This is something that is more predominant in Maharashtra… I think. I’m not sure what mood does this honk suggest… but I’m sure it has to do something with being happy… and definitely with Ganpati ji!
